Olympic Gold for USA Women's Beach Volleyball!

The 8th of August at 7:00 - the women's finals for beach volley and I had a ticket!!!  This was one of the most coveted tickets around and I was thrilled!

This was my favorite Olympic venue - Horse Guards Parade!  I take all of my guests here.
This is such a remarkable place - so much history right here. There is a public footpath here that connects Whitehall with the Mall.  Only the royals are allowed to drive through here and this is where William and Kate drove through on their way back to the Palace from their wedding at Westminster Abbey.  This is where the monarch's birthday is saluted with military pomp and ceremony every June. Winston Churchill's war rooms are right next door.  The old Admiralty buildings are here and one of these was to be the last bastion during the Battle for Britain that thankfully never happened.  And all of this faces St. James' Park - another one of my favorites.

Erika is finishing out her time in London and I was thrilled to be her guest for the evening!  We wore our country's colors with pride...

... as did many others!

So much fun!  Dancers came out often to entertain!  We cheered for the people who raked the sand!  We did the Mexican wave!  Very much a carnival atmosphere!  Everyone got into the spirit...

Even the volunteers!! This volunteer's enthusiasm was contagious!!!  She smiled the entire time!

This match went fast!  And it was really no surprise who won.  May and Walsh have been playing together for a long time and this was Misty May's final match before retiring.

The pair won handily and collasped into one another's arms!

USA took gold and silver.  Brazil took the bronze.

The omnipresent media was omnipresent there!

The stage to award the medals is set up.

Even the press gets a stand!

Solemn attendees stand ready with the medals and bouquets.

Sweet!

Singing the anthem - kind of like karaoke!

I was so impressed with the color guard and how respectful they were of all the flags of the nations.

Showing off their new jewelry!!!

This shirt is inspirational.  These Olympic champions had a dream.  Shouldn't we all?
